The UCID - União Cabo-verdiana Independente e Democrática
(Democratic and Independent Caboverdean Union) is a right wing, christian
democratic political party in Cabo Verde. It was created in 1977, shortly
after independence in 1975 and long before the democratization of the
country in 1990, by citizens abroad, and was mainly popular among the
Caboverdean diaspora (this meaning mostly Lisbon; Rotterdam and New York
much less so). It was part of the A.D.M. party
coalition while it lasted in the early 2000s. It holds two seats in
the national parliament and has been (very) slowly improving in its
electoral results.

According to the
English
Wikipedia article, the even less successful
P.S.D. was created in 1992 from an UCID
fraction.
António Martins, 22 DDecember ec 2016
In the 2016 elections, of all lesser
parties with national-level aspirations, and well below
M.p.D. and P.A.I.C.V.,
only the UCID managed to elect any municipal parliament seats (8 out of
342, all told), and only run candidate lists in 5 municipalities (out of
22): Paul, Ribeira
Grande (1 seat elected), São Vicente
(6 seats elected), Sal (1 seat elected), and
Praia.

The party flag is a simplification of its logo, on
a ~2:3 white background, the disc and arrows with no black contour lines,
no dots in the initials and no fully spelled party name, islands in
buff/tan color, and the green arrows matching the flag field’s
hemidiagonals and apothemas — see
example
of use in 2015.
António Martins, 22 December 2016
The party colors are green and blue, according to the
Portuguese language version of
Wikipedia but the 2016 municipal elections
official
infogram uses darker blue.
António Martins, 22 December 2016
The party logo (see at
the
defunct party site and also at
the
official electoral results site) shows a blue disc with its initialism
in white letters and a green map of the country (10 islands scattered in
their positions) with eight green pentagonal (headless) arrows at compass
directions converging to it; along the lower edge of the disc, outside,
the full name of the party in black capitals.
António Martins, 22 December 2016
Arrows converging to a disc is the main motif of the
emblem of the Portuguese party of the same ideological area,
C.D.S.-P.P..
